Notes: "Place Saint-Michel et Notre-Dame", by Edouard Leon Cortes, was painted circa 1950-1955 and is signed lower left, Edouard Cortes. It is on an unlined canvas; discolored varnish layer; minor frame abrasions along the top and left extreme edges; small spots of faint craquelure in the upper left sky; under UV exam, there appears to be minor inpainting along the top, left and bottom edges, a 1-inch line of inpainting in the sky at the center top edge, several possible pinpoints in the awning along the tree trunk at far right, and a fleck in the street above the artist's signature.
